Dave Power founded J.D. Power and Associates with his wife in 1968 at their kitchen table and grew it into one of the most prestigious marketing information companies in the world. Jamey, his son, joined the family business in 1990 after successful stints with Foote, Cone and Belding and General Motors. At J.D. Power, he was responsible for international operations which grew to 20% of the overall business. In 2005, the family sold the business to The McGraw-Hill Companies and they remained involved for several years. They now pursue various business, philanthropic and community activities.
In 1972, Wil Abele began working at Troemner Inc., a company founded in 1848 that is a global leader in the manufacture of laboratory equipment and precision weights and calibration testing services. In 1990, he became President when he purchased Troemner from his boss and mentor. His son, Ed, joined the business in 2001 after working for VWR Corporation, Troemner’s largest customer. He became COO in 2008 and is now CEO with the guidance and mentoring of Wil. They have also brought Wil’s son-in-law, Robert Scheu, into the business which employs over 150 and has business around the world.
Please join MEA for this unique opportunity to hear from two generations (and a son-in-law) of true family business successes as they share their stories of growing their businesses, bringing family into the business, ownership and management transitions and life after business. This is a must see event for entrepreneurs and families in business, and we encourage you to bring family members along, whether or not they are in the business. You will also have plenty of time before and after the presentation to speak with other entrepreneurs and families. The cost of this event (including cocktails) is $100 for MEA members, and $125 for non-MEA members.
